NIA searches Saokat Molla’s home and party office, son questioned in Bhangar blast case
A horrific road accident on National Highway 17 in the Rajarhat area of Cooch Behar claimed two lives and left four others seriously injured on Sunday morning. The tragedy occurred when a passenger-laden auto-rickshaw traveling from Khagrabari collided head-on with a high-speed private four-wheeler coming from the opposite direction. The impact was so violent that the front portion of the auto-rickshaw was completely shattered, splitting into two pieces, while the auto itself overturned multiple times across the highway.
Local residents, startled by the deafening sound of the crash, rushed to the scene to initiate rescue efforts. They pulled the trapped passengers from the mangled remains of the auto and assisted the occupants of the private car. All six victims were quickly transported to the Cooch Behar Medical College and Hospital for urgent treatment. Upon arrival, medical professionals declared two of the victims dead, while the remaining four were admitted for intensive care.
Hospital sources indicate that two of the four survivors remain in critical condition as they battle life-threatening injuries. Preliminary investigations by the police, who arrived at the spot to seize both vehicles, suggest that excessive speed by both drivers was a primary factor in the disaster. Despite last-minute attempts to maneuver away, the high velocity of the vehicles made the collision unavoidable, resulting in the front of the private car being severely bent and the auto being totally destroyed.
